Awesome OSCAR Holiday Programmes 

Are you looking for fun, adventure and excitement for your child during the School Holidays, then look no further.

YMCA Gisborne provides a safe and inviting environment with activities for ages 5-13 years each School Holiday period, where your child can grow their individual strengths, build friendships and team work and have a whole heap of fun while doing it.

Activities are age appropriate with highly skilled staff, building our future leaders and creating strong memories for years to come and are run both on site and off.

Nippers (5-7 years)
Juniors (8-10 years)
Seniors (11-13 years)

What activities are on offer?

The YMCA plan and design a range of age appropriate, fun and exciting activities for each of the age groups, sure to put a smile on their dials.  You choose between ONSITE activities or OFFSITE EXCURSIONS.

Activities such as Morere Magic, Odeon Movies, Craft days, Sports, Master Chef, Make & Bake, Kaiti Hill Adventures, Cooks Cove, and Eastwood Hill exploration makes the YMCA Holiday Programme the place to be these holidays.

How to Register for the Programme?

Simply download a registration form or pop in and pick up one from OSCAR House Disraeli Street (Big green fence). Once completed form is handed in for processing you will be contacted to be advised of start date.

What are the costs of the programme?

6:45am – 9:00am : $10 per child per day

9:00am – 3:45pm  :$45 per child per day.

3:45pm – 5:45pm  :$10 per child per day.

Work & Income, Child Youth & Family subsidies are available for those who qualify, and assistance can be given to complete forms

What to bring?

Daily: Please send your child with a packed lunch, refillable drink bottle, suitable clothing for the activity including footwear, sunhat during summer and warm clothing during winter.

Swim wear and towel are required daily during the summer, as we have access to a local school pool and may take the children for a swim on the lovely hot days.

Footwear is essential as we do loads of outdoor adventures, and a warm jersey is great for those cooler days.

When needed: dress up gear & resources, and if available, food to share on party day.

How do I pay?

Payment can be made by eftpos, cash or an automatic payment to the Gisborne YMCA.

For those parents who qualify for WINZ, please ensure you get your forms signed off by our team prior to your child starting our programmes.

Afterschool Care

OSCAR After school Care

OSCAR stands for Out of School Care and Recreation and is located at the OSCAR RECREATION HOUSE, 153 Disraeli Street.

The Y is the largest provider of OSCAR programme in New Zealand and your child can be registered for up to 40 weeks of the year.

The Y Vans collect children from 13 primary, Intermediate and High schools (from Makauri to Wainui) and transport them to the Y for organised, structured fun activities, an afternoon snack, and assistance with homework until they are collected by their parents or caregivers.

This programme ensures that no child needs to be at risk, they have a safe, fun and valued environment, they can call their own.

Kakanoa: 5-7 years

What we offer

Our experienced Oscar vans collect each child from their school and bring them back to Oscar House where they have a range of activities to engage in whilst waiting for all the children to be collected from each school.

Snack is provided and children have the option of fruit each day to compliment each snack.

Children are put into their age range group and start the activity of the day with their supervisors.

Recreational activities are offered at multiple sites which include Gisborne Intermediate, Netball, Badminton, Basketball and  Squash courts, Stadium and our Disraeli Street site.

We offer assistance with homework from 5pm till 5:45pm

Can I collect my child early

Yes you can, but we do encourage you to allow the kids to get the full experience of each day by letting them engage in each activity for as long as possible.

When its time to drop off or pick up the kids simply sign your child in and out on the provided sign in sheets located on site at OSCAR House. 

How do I register my child

Clink on the Registration Button, download and complete the registration form, hand in to our team for processing. Once processed you will rceive a call to let you know your start date.

KAITI School based After School Care 

With fantastic onsite after school care options, students of Kaiti School have access to our amazing Kaiti school based programmes.

 Operating from 2:30-5:00pm weekdays, our experienced team of leaders will have your child engaged in exciting, fun and entertaining activities frtom arts and crafts, sports,games and challenges.

Only $65 per week Mon-Fri with WINZ subsidies available, it’s an easy option to after school care, where we provide opportunities for your tamariki to grow as strong individuals and future leaders

Te Wharau School Based After School Care 

Te Wharau based OSCAR After School Care delivers a range of on site recreational activities for students registered at Te Wharau School.

With a huge range of fun activities that include sports, bike riding, obstacle courses, orienteering and so much more its’ the perfect option for after school care.

Operating from 3:00-5:00pm weekdays, our experienced team of leaders will have your child jumping for joy and talking about it with their friends and family.

With the convenience of being on school grounds, your child just walks across the forecourt to the hall and our team takes care of the rest.

Thats easy, convenient and a no brainer.

Only $55 per week Mon-Fri with WINZ subsidies available, it’s an easy option to after school care, where we provide opportunities for your tamariki to grow as strong individuals and future leaders.

Breakfast Club

Join Our No Stress Breakfast Club

YMCA Gisborne Breakfast Club is an approved CYF programme, providing a nutritious breakfast and before school care in a friendly and safe environment, then transporting each child to their enrolled school prior to the school bell.

Breakfast Club is a non profit community service under the umbrella of  YMCA Gisborne OSCAR, catering for children aged 5-13 years.

When

The centre is open Monday to Friday, 6:45 am till 8:45am excluding Statutory Holidays and between Christmas and New Years. The programme is situated at the OSCAR RECREATION HOUSE, 155 Disraeli Street.

Curriculum

Children experience an environment where they “Grow up as competent and confident learners and communicators, healthy in mind, body and spirit, secure in their sense of belonging and in the knowledge that they make a valued contribution to society.” Activities and experiences at Breakfast Club are child orientated and adult supported.

Staffing

Breakfast Club boasts a fantastic team of experienced Staff. Our Staff to child ratios are in accordance with the Ministry of Social Development ratios and in most cases they exceed the minimum requirements

Cost

Daily Rates: $10.00

Casual Rates $12

Fees are charged for times and days enrolled. Attendance over and above the enrolled times shall be an extra cost.

WINZ Subsidies can be accessed to those eligible to subsidise fees.

Meals

Breakfast Club provides breakfast meals for children. Meals are designed to meet the nutritional intake for children and we ensure that healthy options are provided. Specific meals can be made to cater for your child/s, family/whanau dietary requirements.
